Have you ever used a candle with a wood wick? Jasmine’s Essence uses crackling wood wicks for our soy candles. Crackling wicks are made of wood instead of the traditional cotton wicks used in most candles. They have a cleaner burn and create a longer burn time for your candle. They also omit a soothing crackling sound like wood logs burning in a fireplace. However the require a bit more care than your traditional cotton wick candle. Below you will read more about caring for your wooden wick candles!
To optimize the burn of your wood wick candle, these steps should be followed:
-
Every time you burn your candle, you should let it burn long enough for the wax pool to reach the edge of the container. This may take up to 2-3 hours. If you don’t allow the candle to burn long enough to create an adequate wax pool, this may cause tunneling and you will not get the full use out of your candle. You should never burn your candle for more than 4 hours at a time.
-
Trim the charred part of the wick after each use and keep your wick trimmed to about 1/8-1/4 of an inch. This will ensure optimal burn time, fragrance throw, and flame height. Only trim wicks on a cooled candle. Never trim the wick when the wax is in its liquid state.
-
Only burn your candle on a level, heat resistant surface.
-
Never leave a candle unattended.
-
Keep candles out of the reach of children and pets, as they may burn themselves or knock over the candle.
-
Keep candles away from anything flammable.
-
Keep candles away from drafts and ceiling fans.
Wood wicks may require a bit more care, but the benefits are worth the effort.
